Why Pay for Bags in Malls and Retail Stores ???

Honourable Supreme Court had considered a ban on Plastic almost 5 years back. And adhering to this all the Malls, Retail Stores including big names like Hyper City, Dmart, Big Bazaar, Shoppers Stop, and all the major retailers you know also joined hands and said plastic bags are banned.

Then, all of a sudden they started getting bags with permissible limits above 50 microns and charged customers for each bag they purchase at almost 5 to 10 times the cost of the Bag. According the these retailers they are forcing the customers to discard plastic bags by charging them heavily, which in one way did contribute to reducing the number of plastic bag purchase. But this move will not stop the people from buying plastic bags as the alternative option provided is also Plastic. Customers who can spend Rs.3000 to 5000 per month on monthly grocery or any sort of shopping will not hesitate to pay Rs. 5 to Rs. 10extra for a bag( if they are not carrying a bag).

But the Big question is, When Customers are coming to your shop to purchase Groceries, Clothes or any material from the stores worth thousands of rupees, is it not the duty of the shop owners to give them a Bag to carry? Since Plastic is Banned and if they have decided to charge, then why not give a Paper Bag (free of cost) or charge for a Cloth Bag/ Jute Bag? There are few brands who still do not charge the customers on bags and instead have replaced plastic with Paper. Thats what we call the right approach to a Problem.

Every retailer should provide a carry bag free of cost to their customers. And if they are charging then they should provide us with Cloth or Jute Bags. We all need to come together and stop the Loot by these Retailers.

Stop Plastic Completely for the benefit of our Planet.

Stop Retailers from Looting customers by charging exorbitant price for Bags which they have to give mandatorily on every Purchase.
