Good news for the ocean
Jan 29, 2015 — Dear friend,
Good news! In the early hours of 24th January, the United Nations agreed that there will be an international agreement for the protection of the high seas – the international portion of the ocean for which you signed on to our petition, together with more than 286,000 citizens from 111 different countries. Congratulations!
Although this is a major milestone, there is still much work to do. Legislative reforms take longer than any of us would wish! While this is just the first step, which still needs to be formally approved later in the year, with your help we have ensured that policy makers are on the path for the future we want for the ocean.
We will continue to push for formal approval to happen before July and will use your collective message to maintain pressure on decision-makers.
Again, thank you for your support!
