Children are fragile and should accordingly be treated as such. But it is unfortunate that our society today is forcing the kind of responsibility that is too dire for their young body, soul and spirit to carry, on them. Our girls are being forced into marriages at an age when they are still babies themselves. This has over the years led to diseases like Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), being subjected to all forms of abuse, stillbirth, suicide, kidneey failures, VVF eventually leading to death, etc. And Child labor leading to death on the street, sleeping under the bridge or uncompleted buildings, rape, trafficking, as well as other vices.

 Long gone should be the days when the place of a woman is in the kitchen or the rights of a girl-child is forcefully taken from her. The government, religious bodies and Cultural leaders should rise to their responsibilities by abolishing this backward Cultural beliefs of evil, that has ridden a lot of young girls their rightful place in the Society.

This is a cry for help, and I implore as many people as possible to help eradicate this ugly disease called Child-marriage, and Child-labor that keeps  enslaving and ripping our young girls the joy of fulfilling their dreams.

If we win in this SOS call, a whole lot of girls would be left to fulfil their life purpose, thereby becoming worthy women in places of power in the Society, after all Children are the leaders of tomorrow. And if we lose (I pray and hope we do not), this injustice would continue and might even penetrate all other regions in Nigeria.
