Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are toxic “forever chemicals” that are found in everything from our food packaging and clothes to our water supply. There is heavy evidence to suggest that PFAS are a major and imminent health threat to humans; studies show PFAS can cause cancer, birth defects, infertility, liver damage, thyroid disease and many other health problems. These chemicals should be absolutely banned from manufacturing. 

There are over 9,000 PFAs, all of which are unnatural chemicals that do not occur in nature. They are regarded as ‘forever chemicals’ as they are persistent substances, lasting thousands of years; PFAs are an imminent risk to the environment, wildlife and human health. PFAS are a worldwide spreading issue with 99% of people worldwide expected to find them in their blood. 

Our bodies struggles to rid themselves of these dangerous chemicals meaning that exposure to even just small amounts of PFAS could build up and result in toxic levels. 

The Netflix documentaries ‘dark waters’ ‘the devil we know’ has shed light on the shocking issues and risks associated with any similar, unnatural group of chemicals called PFOAs. Many companies gelt the pressure and agreed to stop using PFOAs and instead opted for PFASs but there is lacking evidence to suggest PFASs are any less toxic! 

The effects of PFAS are devastating. The heartbreaking damage we cause by manufacturing these chemicals will be felt for Many generations to come.
It’s time we end the madness and started the clear up!
