BAN ALL HEARTSTICKING AND GASSING METHODS OF ANIMAL EUTHANASIA IN AMERICA PERMANENTALLY!!!

BAN ALL HEARTSTICKING AND GASSING METHODS OF ANIMAL EUTHANASIA IN AMERICA PERMANENTLY!!! AS WELL AS ALL ELECTROCUTION AND DECOMPRESSION METHODS!!!

3 million to 4 million dogs and cats will be killed at animal shelters this year and every year!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Many Animal Shelters are still using the controversial methods of HEARTSTICKING and GASSING!!! Others are using ELECTROCUTION and DECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS!!!

Intracardial injections, commonly referred to as "heartsticks," are considered inhumane and cruel when performed on animals that aren't anesthetized or comatose. Using the "heartstick" method is painful because the needle containing sodium phenobarbital  (a schedule II controlled substance used to euthanize animals) passes through the chest wall and several layers of muscle before puncturing the heart. If the euthanasia substance isn't carefully and accurately administered, an animal's lungs could be punctured, causing them to fill with fluid. Which is an even more cruel and painful way to die.

Current law dictates that ALL animals must be sedated or anesthetized to the state of comatose BEFORE receiving the heartstick. Many Shelters, especially Rural Shelters, DO NOT abide by this law. Intracardial injections are difficult to administer effectively on fully conscious animals because in the animal, the lungs and the heart are constantly moving, said Dr. Bonnie Beaver, a veterinarian and professor of veterinary medicine who is considered a euthanasia expert by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Gassing is a method where the animals are placed into a metal Gas Chamber. Then Carbon Monoxide is pumped into the Gas Chamber. Depending on the size and fitness of the animals, the size and condition of the Gas Chamber and the amount of Carbon Monoxide used, It can take anywhere between 10 and 40 minutes for the animals to die. During the process the animals are fully conscious. They have immense pain and suffering during the process they have convulsions and muscular spasms as they ingest the Carbon Monoxide. They begin to vomit and defecate only to ingest these bodily fluids as well as the Carbon Monoxide. Their SCREAMS OF AGONY go UNNOTICED by those that perform these HORRIFIC ACTS OF CRUELTY!!!

Even the "best" Gas Chambers can cause conscious animals the horror of watching others suffer from convulsions and muscular spasms as they slowly die. Old, young and sick animals are particularly susceptible to gas-related trauma and will thus die slow, highly stressful and excruciatingly painful deaths.

As hard as it is to believe, there are still facilities in the United States that kill animals using painful ELECTROCUTION or in cruel DECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS. In the Decompression Chambers the gases in animals' sinuses, middle ears and intestines expand quickly, causing considerable discomfort to severe pain. Some animals survive the first go-round in decompression chambers and are re-compressed because of malfunctioning equipment or the operator's mistake or because animals get trapped in air pockets. They are then put through the painful procedure all over again.

Peaceful deaths in loving arms by way of an intravenous injection of Sodium Phenobarbital. This—and only this—is true euthanasia, a good death. Euthanasia is a kindness, often the only kindness ever known for animals who are born into a world that doesn't want them, has not cared for them and ultimately has abandoned them to be disposed of as "surplus" beings.
