Bottom trawling is a highly destructive form of fishing which involves dragging a large net along the seabed to force fish into the net. Bottom trawling causes the unnecessary death of sea creatures that are thrown away as bycatch. As well as this, it leads to the destruction of ancient structures like coral reefs and it can scar the landscape. Bottom trawling also releases carbon which can lead to climate change and sediment which can lead to decreased photosynthesis and a harmful change in the food chain.
