Require Cameras on all Baltimore City School Buses

Hello everyone. As some of you may know, my son Amare' has a disability, called Cerebral Palsy. Because of Amare's disability, he is given transportation to and from school, through Baltimore City Schools.

About 2 weeks ago we received a call from the school, letting us know that another student reported that the bus aide had smacked Amare' in the face. For anyone who doesn't know, Amare doesn't speak very well; therefore, that was the first time we'd heard about the incident. Since then, we've had with multiple home visits and checks with CPS and Baltimore City Police. They have been very supportive and have showed my son a lot of love.

As many of you may expect; since that day, I've had a really hard time feeling comfortable putting my son back onto the bus, because my trust has been up and down with everyone. This incident has made me realize, that this may not have been the first time something like this has happened, to my son or anyone else's child. And sadly, it probably won't be the last.

I am asking for help, with a  campaign to bring awareness to keeping kids(especially those who are most vulnerable) safe as they are on school buses. As parents, when we send our children out to school, we have an expectation that those we entrust our children with, will treat them well. Imagine how disappointing it has been for us, to know that trust has been violated.

In order to ensure parents feel safe, and create a deterrence for things like this happening on the buses; I believe all school buses that transport students with disabilities, should be equipped with cameras. Not just to see if the kids are being treated right, but to also help build trust with the parents. In this incident, we will never know if the bus aide truly hit Amare' or not. Having a camera on the bus, would have made it so much easier to determine what did or didn't happen.

I'm hoping to get as many signatures on this petition as possible, and then to have it presented to the appropriate people at Baltimore City Schools, Mayor Catherine Pugh, and Governor Hogan. Please help me to make a change, and ensure this doesn't happen to another child. Cameras on buses should be required! Please help my fight to protect these kids, who can't protect themselves.
