In Baltimore nearly 1/4 of residents live at or below the federal poverty line. A large percentage of these families are gap families or families than earn too much to qualify for benefits, but not enough to consistently make ends meet and support themselves or their families. These individuals and families struggle to get the support they need because most vital support services are restrictive and as result gap families are stuck in the cycle of poverty that other low income families can escape with the help of supportive services.
Baltimore's gap families need support. Families are the building blocks of communities.Strong and stable families mean strong and stable communities.
Strong and stable communities provide the tools necessary for better education systems, better housing options, access to opportunities and an overall higher quality of living for all. Parts of Peace's Family Academy is a 6 month family stability program that connects families to the services and resources they need to transition from temporary hardship to lasting independence. The the program provides eligible families with the following services:
- Case Management
- Financial Counseling
- Peer Support
- Savings Matching
- Household Necessities
- as well as services from partner agencies
