BCSD GHS Back to School started this petition to Ball-Chatham School District and

Glenwood High School (GHS) students are currently learning remotely, with no option for in-person education. The Ball-Chatham School District (BCSD) has a safe and functional plan in place for K-8, but GHS students and teachers have been left behind due to an administrative shortfall.

This is an opportunity for all stakeholders to add their name in support of a return to school for GHS students.

There are two issues at stake:

1. Offer options ASAP and without delay: GHS students and teachers need an option that matches that offered to the rest of the district (a hybrid model + a virtual model) as soon as possible.
— This plan was approved by the BCSD School Board twice. A survey of GHS families shows that 71% chose the hybrid option.
— It has been proven safe in our own schools.
— The barrier is administrative, not safety. This has been confirmed by BCSD administration and the school board.
— It is up to the administration to secure technology, staff or creative solutions.
Delaying a return to at least a hybrid model to second semester is not acceptable.

2. Restore classroom time: GHS families request a plan that restores safe and equitable in-person learning as much as possible, for second semester.
— This would be a new plan, allowing students that choose in-person learning more time at school.
— Other schools within the IDPH established Heath Region 3 offer five-day learning now, and in some instances full-time or near full-time, with safe outcomes. Other districts around the state offer full-time or near full-time five-day learning now, with safe outcomes.
— The barrier is administrative, as well as external (ie: state regulations).
— It is up to the administration to explore options. This group recommends spatial studies of the buildings, modeling based on other districts, consultations with other school district administrators and consultations with workplace/classroom safety experts.
