Backyard chickens and fresh eggs daily
This petition had 157 supporters
Many communities and small towns are allowing backyard hens. It's time to see Maquoketa, Iowa on board and add a new ordinance.
Why backyard hens? You can have organic delicious fresh eggs daily, hens can make great pets, they will eat pesky bugs from your yard and you can use their nitrogen rich waste as compost for for your garden.
What are we proposing? That anyone within city limits can apply for a permit to keep up to 6 hens. Each permit costing $25 for single family homes. All six must be properly housed in a completely closed coop at night with the option to run free within a fenced in back yard during the day. The proposal will not allow for roosters.
The proposal will include keeping the coop away from the property lines and away from other resident dwellings.
Cities are overrun by rodents. Let's allow one that is beneficial for families in several ways.
Please keep signatures to Maquoketa residents in order to make this petition more effective!
