Backyard Chickens
Why this petition matters

As it stands the city of Albertville does not allow backyard chickens. I want to change this. I know that the council has shot this down numerous times, but I believe with enough people showing interest and the rising popularity of backyard chickens, we may finally be able to change this outdated ordinance.
Backyard chickens have the ability to provide farm fresh eggs, educational experiences for the community, insect control, and the compost fertilizer is beneficial for gardens.
I know that many feel hens can be loud or smell which could potentially be a nuisance for neighbors, but from my research, a flock of 4-6 hens which is what most cities allow for are much more silent than dogs barking. Furthermore, the smell from a small coop is very minimal provided the coop is kept up with. I think we all know that with a change of ordinance would come a strict ordinance on upkeep.
Please consider signing this petition and allowing residents the ability to show you how great owning backyard chickens can be.
