We ask that the Scottish Governement seriously think of changing timescale of after 24 weeks of pregnancy when you can register the death of a baby.

Baby Loss retreat feel strongly about this and ask that this be reduced. It is a proven medical fact that at 9 weeks the baby is no longer an embryo and now a fetus. To look at someone having a miscarriage after 10 weeks and no physical acknowledgement of life is very upsetting on all parts.

We ask that the government look into this and make a motion to have some sort of certificate put in place to acknowledge a life. We are not asking for it to be put on register of birth/death but a separate certificate or letter to the family of a loss that the Scottish Government acknowledge.

We are aware there is a broad range of feelings amongst bereaved parents and they may not want to register the death before 24 weeks. That’s why we ask its not compulsary but parents are given the right to at least have closure.

As a Charity who deal with all types of miscarriages & Stillborns it is a common complaint that comes up when the death is before 24 weeks
