NO TO HIDDEN AND ILLEGAL CAGES IN THE MUNICIPAL KENNEL OF SON REUS

NO TO HIDDEN AND ILLEGAL CAGES IN THE MUNICIPAL KENNEL OF SON REUS

LETTER SENT TO THE CITY HALL IN PALMA, MALLORCA
NO TO HIDDEN AND ILLEGAL CAGES IN THE MUNICIPAL KENNEL OF SON REUS
At present and nearly after 30 years after the passing of the law 1/92 on April, 8th on The Well-being of Animals in the Balearic Islands, the City Hall in Palma is still flagrantly not complying with the aforementioned law since they keep placing animals (mainly cats) in cages hidden inside the centre. These cages are neither visible by the public not meet the minimum conditions regarding sanitation or animal welfare, to which the law requires.
A large number of these animals - the ones discretionally considered unadoptable by the directors of the centre for being ill, injured, disabled or scared - are put down after a period of 21 days without having received any veterinarian treatment if ill or having been published on the centre’s official website as obliged by the law. Above all, without having been given the slightest opportunity of adoption or recovery by their families as some do have.
The vast majority does not receive minimum veterinarian attention and, for this reason, many die in the hidden cages citizens have no knowledge of before the deadline of the three weeks is reached, resulting in putting animals down.
We urge you to sign and share this petition since we cannot continue to tolerate this institutional ill treatment and completely illegal action at the hands of the City Hall in a city like this, Palma, declared animal friendly to the public. However, it continues not only to put down animals but also allow pets to die in hidden cages away from the public when those are deemed arbitrarily unadoptable without giving them the slightest opportunity to leave the municipal kennel of Son Reus alive.
