Ayr Advertiser : Back our petition for a historical attraction at Ayr Riverside

COMMUNITY groups are backing our campaign to ensure a historical attraction is included in the new development being planned for Ayr Riverside.

When the building housing, the former Woolworths store, was knocked down remains of 19th century Ayr were discovered - including the the former King's Arms Hotel which was demolished in the 1930s.

Momentum has been growing for archaeologists to keep digging to see what else they can find and for the findings to eventually be on display.

We feel a heritage site could be put in place instead, with a glass floor for locals and tourists to walk above the remains of 'Auld Ayr' - bring Ayr back to life and encourage tourists to visit.

Do you agree?

The council is currently consulting on their plans, which include flats, offices for council workers and an open area.

Please support our petition. We have until May.
