I am in support of Nuri’s release. His sentence was a result of the systems injustices and I thank God for the recent relief in his case.

I am signing because I want Nuri to gain his freedom and to she’s light on his case due to systemic racism.

(1) Due to judicial and jury bias, Black people are incarcerated on overage five times the rate of whites, and in some states the disparity reaches 10-to-1.
(2) Black people make up two-thirds of inmates serving Life Without Parole sentences, and 65 percent of those serving de facto life sentences.
(3) the impulse to
engage in crime, including violent crime, is highly correlated
with age, and by one’s early 40s even those identified as the
most chronic “career criminals” have tapered off considerably.
Lifelong imprisonment with limited or no chance for review
only serves a retributive purpose.

‪The use of “dark” as a synonym for “bad” is a microaggression that results in macro-oppression. The constant devaluing of darkness pings upon the subconscious, impugning darkness as flawed even though the visual spectrum does not confer morality. #ChangeLanguageChangeMinds‬

These kinds of sentences seem to be about something else more akin to genocide

I'm tired of the system locking away our men of color with no chance of release.
