I am a parent of adopted children....and they had a great laugh at this. One of my children (adult) is gay as well as adopted...he thinks we all need to have a sense of humour... it was not done in a mean or condescending way. Lets take it for what its worth...a joke.

I am so tired of being the brunt of this kind of joke. To the writers of this screenplay - are you aware that there are over 6.5 MILLION adult adoptees in the United States? Are you aware that the majority of us are discriminated against because we have NO legal right to own our original birth certificate? This has become offensive and it's time for you to catch up and be more creative in your writing than to fall back on this old, derogatory line. We have enough to deal with already.

Insensitive to children who watch the film and who may not understand the background of the characters as previously laid out in the comic books.

Mirroring my comment from Disboard here to throw my contempt of this bullshit in the ring:
You and your supporters have zero understanding of comic book mythology if you are seriously offended that comic books and their adaptations aren't doing justice to adoptive families. because you have to be a complete idiot to not see the numerous examples of beautiful adoption stories in comic books and the strength of character and sense of justice it builds in superheroes.

Clark Kent (Superman) - adopted by the Kent family
Bruce Wayne (Batman) - adopted (in a sense) by Alfred Pennyworth
Dick Grayson and Jason Todd (first and second Robin; eventually Nightwing and Red Hood, respectively) - adopted by Bruce Wayne
Peter Parker (Spiderman) - adopted by Ben and May Parker
Loki - adoptive brother to Thor Odinson, adopted by Odin Allfather

Jason Todd excluded, Loki is the only major 'adoption gone wrong' story i can think of off the top of my head. And to be honest i still find it a beautiful and inspiring adoption story because in the mythology Thor never gives up on his brother and is constantly trying to redeem him. Thor loves Loki unconditionally and the pain he must endure seeing his brother betray the ideals of their family is the single greatest conflict of that franchise.

Thor's quip only shows him trying to deal with the pain tearing him apart and makes it clear that he can't even begin to piece together the source of his brother's betrayal, so he is forced to mask his pain with uncomfortable comedy. i would imagine those feelings to a lesser extent are present in most sibling rivalries.

Comic books are the single greatest source of positive adoption stories in contemporary media. You all need to grow up.

This line is offensive to birthparents who surrender their children and to adoptive parents, and is hurtful and confusing to the children who are adopted. It's sad to think we have to screen a child's movie - a Walt Disney movie - no less, before we can take our children to see it.

You people are very ignorant. Get over yourselves. I bet not one of you have ever told or laughed at a blond joke huh? What's the difference.

I have 2 adopted daughters and they have no issue with this joke. There are more important issues in this world than to waste time with stupid petitions such as this.

Next you will sign a petition to tell toy makers to stop making Tickle-Me-Elmo because when you touch it; it's classified as "assault". Yeah, stupid huh?

Oh, and let's not forget to ban all guns because guns kill people, oh yeah, you forgot to notice the ass pulling the trigger.

Have a nice day! :)

I am adopted. I went and saw this movie with my wife, who is also adopted. My brother is adopted as well. We laughed like crazy at the joke, because it is just that, a laugh. Nothing more. I am only an adopted human though. I can’t vouch for the frost giants and how they feel about their species having a dwarf being adopted by a Norse deity. I can’t vouch for those that adopt other species from intergalactic inherently evil creatures. But personally I am against adoption by gods in those situations. That is just my view.
I think it is more offensive to that race that they are called “man eaters” in the original Norse tongue.
I also believe this petition is on the wrong page. This one is about human rights, not the rights of the bergrisar race.

Wow. Just wow. Did any of you actually watch the movie or have a clue what was going on? Totally taken out of context.

Let me school you all.

Loki was born to an evil race called the Frost Giants and was adopted by Thors father.

In saying "he was adopted", Thor was merely pointing out that he is not blood related to Loki who was born to an evil race. In effect pointing out that Loki's evilness comes from his heritage not his upbringing. Thor was not saying that Loki is evil because he is adopted as you misleading infer.

Calm down and enjoy what is a brilliant movie.

If you watched the movie you would see that loki had been adopted from a race of evil people. Some traits are inherited a co worker didnt believe in ADD until she adopted a child with it, she always thought it was bad parenting, I sugested it still could be as there was 9 months of parenting before birth where things like booze, cigs, and drugs can make changes. There are people that fly to russia and china to adopt but I never hear of anyone flying to the rape capital of the world, the Congo, which also has a murder rate higher than Detriot.

If you flag this but have not adopted a crack baby you are a hypocrite.
