Ashok Mistry started this petition to Avanti fields Leicester and

Avant fields is asking parents the extortionate amount of £550 per child per year for transport to its new site in Hamilton. For parents with two children of secondary School age that means a cost of £1100 per year. Many of us parents feel this cost is too expansive especially when we have had no say in sending our children to a school so far away and ask Leicester City council to work with Avanti Fields to better subsidise travel.  Many parents are scared that they will not be able to afford the cost of travel but have no schools closer to where they live. The information on cost of the dedicated bus set was sent on Tuesday 6th July , only days before the start of the summer holidays. We ask the council to take responsibility for its decisive schools policy and pay for travel.

Background: Since the closure of John Ellis school and the sale of its land for £80,000,000 there has been a lack of school places across Belgrave and Abbey Rise. To deal with this shortsighted decision, Leicester City Council decided agree the building of a Avanti Fields in Hamilton 3-4 miles away!

Since Avanti Fields was opened at its temporary site, Leicester City Council has been allocating school places for secondary school children Belgrave, Abbey Rise and other areas of Leicester. This has been done without any consultation and in ignorance of the impact on these children and their parents. Initially parents feel they have been lured into accepting the school places with free transport to the temporary site but without any information on the cost of travel to the new site. In effect the council has not been building schools where they are needed and forcing parents to take places at schools miles away and pay extortionate amounts to get their children to school.
