In school, it has been brought to our attention that Veteran’s Day is a national holiday, made to honor veteran’s and the dead. This also means it closes school, and most businesses. But for Avalon Middle School and Orange County, we do not have this opportunity to have day of remembrance and rest. This is not right. We do not get this day off, and others around us too. A number of us kids and teachers have family members that are in the military and we should be able to communicate with them. If parents get the day off, why not us? The Orange County School Board should be more inclusive of those who have had weak pasts with the family members that may have been lost in the fight, and losing family is extremely saddening, and a day that is made for that very reason?! This is outrageous and us kids have every right to support this national holiday. Last time I checked, a national holiday is a day off for mostly all services and business. What does school’s category fall under? services. I rest my case, and I hope that you do the right thing, for the kids, and for the people. -Tyler Tran
