Australian War Memorial - Please delay impending closure of, and access to the old Site

Recently the Australian War Memorial has launched a new web site. It has run in parallel with the old site, however this comes to a close at the end of August, 2017.

Whilst the new site is improving as time goes by, we are troubled that access for researchers, teachers, historians, genealogists, writers, academics and others has become so difficult as to be almost a loss to us.

This is a particular concern to those of us that can not make it to the AWM to be re trained in how to use the new site. Indeed, the AWM would be swamped if we all turned up at once.

We are concerned that -

1. Letters and correspondence to the AWM from many of us on this issue have gone unanswered .

2. The only access for feedback is to communicate with Web Masters and Digital Content Managers, who may understand the intricacies of web design but not the nature of our needs in terms of research.

We specifically seek : -

1. An indefinite delay in the closure of the old site at the end of August 2017 until such time that ....

2. A consultative approach be taken by the AWM, its web design people, the Military History Section and us, the users who rely on a system we've taken years to master and rely upon in our work.

In this time of the Centenary of the Great War, increasing interest in family history of those who served in the the First and Second World Wars and Post War Conflicts, this arbitrary and uninformed change makes no sense.

Please show your support and sign the petition. Our hope is to get the attention of Dr Nelson and the responsible Minister, The Hon Dan Tehan MP so we can be properly listened to and our account taken into concerns

Thank you for your support.
