Binge drinking is harmful to your health both short term and long term. Other issues as a result of binge drinking include losing valuable items such as phones and wallets or purses. Binge drinking can also affect your judgement and exacerbate risky behaviour. Nothing here is really that surprising. But do we really notice this when we are drinking.

I have a passion for this campaign as a result of looking at my own drinking practices. Like most Australians I have a keen interest in sport. Usually I load up the fridge with beer, kick back and enjoy the sights and sounds of my favourite sports team running rings around the opposition. But what surprised me was the amount I drink while doing this. I decided to examine my drinking. Last week in the space of a little over two hours I had consumed ten standard drinks. This level of drinking is not acceptable.

Thankfully I met some friends that felt the same. The buddy up, beat the binge campaign is a result of our concerns and desire to create behavioural change amongst Australian university students. We want people to enjoy themselves on night outs. But caution that getting blind drunk is not the best way to do this. This is why we have set a target of consuming six or less standard drinks on our night outs. We realise that on our own we may falter which is why we recommend the buddy up system. By adding your name to this campaign along with a friend we hope this encourages you to work as each other’s responsibility partners. In doing so you will act as each other’s partner in curbing your consumption of alcohol.

By pledging yourself and a friend to this campaign you are a part of a growing community that not just enjoys themselves on a night out on the town, but does so in a healthy and responsible manner. To learn more please visit our social media channels by searching buddy up, beat the binge.

Thanks.
