She Votes Australia started this petition to Australian politicians and

It's not a new concept, women have had the vote in Australia for over 100 years, yet gender equality is still a long way off, we need to band together to put gender policies at the forefront of political action.

We're talking about using your voice and vote to help give our nation a better fighting chance at achieving gender equality.

We want to improve gender equality in Australia using the power of democracy.

Because we believe that 'Women’s* issues’ are everyone’s issues.

Fighting for Gender Equality is ongoing, but for now, we’re aiming to:

• Make achieving gender equality the priority issue of the next election.

• Encourage all political parties to:

• Develop fully-fledged gender policies across key priority areas for women.

• Make implementing these gender policies and providing the associated funding core election promises.

• Provide a place for women and their allies to assess political promises and gender policies to inform their vote.

Why Should I Help?

The last 18 months has been particularly challenging for women:

•  Women were disproportionately hit by the economic disruption brought by COVID-19.

•  Women bore the brunt of the additional caring responsibilities associated with lockdowns as many simultaneously continued to juggle work.

•  Domestic violence intensified in many households due to COVID and 55 women were killed in 2020.

•  Women were reminded that many workplaces are not safe with high profile sexual assault claims from Parliament and sexual harassment in Corporate Australia filling newspapers.

Plus we are going backwards

•       In 2021, Australia was ranked 50 out of 156 countries. In the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index.

•       In 2006, we were ranked number 15.

These are confronting statistics, but that’s why we are here. To instigate conversations, create action and real change.

We want Australian Political Parties to commit to developing transparent and fully funded gender policies.
