Waive the annual registration fee for Marriage Celebrants in 2020 due to impact of COVID19

The wedding industry is being significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions on gatherings and travel leading most couples to postpone or radically change their wedding plans.

This is having a serious negative impact on cash flow for Marriage Celebrants who are, by and large, sole traders. As a result, these dedicated service providers are currently doing it tough under extraordinary circumstances totally outside of their control.

We respectfully call upon the Attorney General Christian Porter and the AG’s Registrar of Marriage Celebrants, Rohan Verco, to waive the professional registration fee for all Australian Marriage Celebrants in 2020, as a small measure of financial support, to help celebrants get through these next difficult months as the economic impact of this public health emergency is being felt.
