It takes intelligence and courage to get the right balance when producing rules and regulations that affect basic human rights. Doctors are not gods and need to be held accountable for their actions, but neither are those in judgement over them and they also need to be held to account when implying someone is guilty until proved innocent.

I honestly 'ticked the box' reporting I may have an impairment which would affect my practice of medicine. After 2.5 yrs of hounding with assessments, interviews and multiple medical reports (12 months of weekly psychiatric visits to monitor as well) I was given the A O-K to return to work but under conditions of Level 1 Direct 20 hours, then level 2 to 3 mths then level 3 to 12 months all with reports to be made at the end of each period. After 40 yrs in general practice, these conditions are onerous, embarrassing and impossible to meet. After 3 months of searching, I could not find 2 supervisors in the same practice to commit to it. So I have downgraded to non practicing registration. The conditiobs, however, will remain on my registration forever. I am very disappointed to be treated this way after an enjoyable career. I self declared, only because I had turned 65 in 2015. I did this for insurance purposes, the same as I got a pink slip with an M on it for my driver's licence. The outcome of this farce is that I have lost the right to practice medicine in any form through no fault of my own, but the story will be recorded for all to see, whether I'm working or not!

This is unjust to place on the public record accusations which may prove unfounded. This is a big ugly stick, which will be more harm than good. Midwives have tolerated this abuse, vexatious and mischievous complaints without basis, but it has destroyed lives, and arguably a whole profession has been undermined.

Baseless punitive action is scary. Expectations of medicine to cure everything is a stupid concept. Professional conduct must be maintained , as with professional evaluation.
