SUSPEND ALL DEBT DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK TO HELP PEOPLE MANAGE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SELF-ISOLATION EFFECTIVELY.

- Acting swiftly and early helps stop the spread of the virus
- Social Distancing is an effective strategy, but it needs people to be motivated to stay in isolation.
- A Debt Holiday will remove the need to continue working, particularly for casual / self- employed workers, and allow people to spend money on immediate needs and supplies. Italy and UK  have already done so.

Around the world, countries who acted early and swiftly to contain the virus are having the most success ‘flattening the curve’ and slowing further community transmission of the COVID-19, reducing pressure on health services and giving care to people who need it most.

One of the most effective strategies used is Social Distancing.

However, Social Distancing requires people to actively choose to stay home and not go to work. This would be fine, except many people from all walks of life live to pay-check to pay-check, supporting families, paying rent, mortgage, bills such as school fees, electricity, water and gas. They fear stopping work and self-isolating because if they do not work, they do not get paid, and if they don’t get paid, they can’t keep up their financial commitments or buy much needed supplies.

Giving Australians a Debt Holiday will remove many people’s need to continue working, and allow social distancing to be truly effective.

Our biggest priority as a species is to stop the spread of COVID-19, help those who have contracted the virus, and keep as many of us as we can alive and healthy. Anything less than this pure greed and selfishness.
