AFL: Keep Good Friday free of football
It is respectful and kind of the AFL to keep Good Friday free of football. Amidst fresh media speculation, we petition the AFL to maintain this tradition.
The tradition of Good Friday as a holy day goes back centuries before Aussie Rules was even invented! People of faith, also football fans and club members, urge the tradition be maintained. It would be unkind and disrespectful to do otherwise. The significance of Good Friday to disciples of Jesus goes to the heart of our lives and focuses us on matters of eternal significance.
Already there are AFL games on Maundy Thursday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and on the Monday holiday. There is no necessity for another game.
This petition will be shared with staff at the AFL in June.
