Duncan Bray started this petition to Australian federal government and

If you are currently on a bridging visa awaiting Permanent Residency in Australia, or even if you have lived here for many years as a tax paying temporary resident and have now realised you're not eligible for any financial aid in this current crisis, this petition is for you!

If the below description sounds familiar, then please get signing and sharing!

I have lived in Australia for almost 10 years. During this time I have been employed full time and have duly paid my taxes and generally attempted to be a stand-up would-be citizen. As best made plans have a tendency to do, my original pathway to becoming a citizen fell through due to an untrustworthy and dishonest previous employer. I also funded that whole visa application myself. Now, finally on the route to becoming a Permanent Resident through my Australian partner (and $12k lighter for the application and Immigration Lawyer fees) I am currently on a Bridging Visa with no work restrictions whilst awaiting the grant of my main visa. It has now come to my attention that even though I am in my tenth year of living in the country as a tax payer and would-be resident, that this does NOT give my current employer access to the 'Job Keeper' stimulus payment to help keep me employed throughout this financial crisis. This is accessible to them for casuals and New Zealand citizens, but not me. This will likely lead to me losing my employment and a job I have worked in for over 3 years. I will then not be able to claim any benefits. What's more, is that whilst I am still currently employed at the time of writing, this prevents my Australian partner from receiving any financial help from the Government for her reduction in earnings. Effectively, my employment counts when dictating what we cannot have, but not when looking at what I am entitled to.

I am sure there must be more people in this situation. Let's please rally together and get this petition signed to allow it to be put in front of those who can amend this legislation. I love this country and have every intention of becoming a citizen of it one day, but right now, I also need it to reciprocate this love and support that I have given it for the last decade, or I am afraid I will not get that opportunity.

Let's sign, share and be heard!

Thanks!

Duncan
