Australian United Pensioners Group started this petition to Australian federal government
Of 2.4 million Australian Pensioners, 1.3 million are living below the poverty line. Of all OECD countries paying an Aged Pension, Australia is at the bottom of the list on the latest survey.
We need a minimum increase in the Aged Pension of 20%. This will cover much of the increases we have already had due to the rise of electricity prices and food. Many live in private rental accommodation which in many cases takes up to 80% of their pension. This means that come pension day, decisions have to be made of whether to have the lights on, food in the cupboard, or the medications the doctor has prescribed.
Living on a pension these days is not easy, but a minimal increase of 20% would make life much easier for the 1.3 Million

The government need to increase the Aged Pension by a minimum of 20%. Link pension increases to wage increase indexation.

I started this petition, because…
My name is John Hunter. I am an executive member of Australian United Pensioners Group.
I have been retired 5 years. I was put out of work at the age of 63 and lived on Newstart for two years before the Pension. I rely solely on the pension.
