My nephew keidan is autistic he is currently in a public school. He is struggling to cope in the school as the school is not trained in autism. Yesterday (03/10/2019) he was messing around with one of his friends (the only friend he has as he struggles to make friends) and a couple of boys came to him a pushed him to the floor two of them held him down and another started booting him. There were a group of people around him watching yet none of the teachers saw anything. The school have punished keidan for messing with his friend by giving him a red card and a detention . The agreement that the school and my sister agreed to was to allowed keidan outside for the first part of the dinner break and then he gets to choose 2 friends to go in side for the second half of the break. But in stead the school left keidan outside where he had got beat up.
You can not punish a autistic child the same way as another child. They need to be spoken to so they understand why they are getting punished. You should only punished a child with autism once do not give them loads of punishments for the one thing.
A level 2 autism is only a 3 month course as I am on the course. I feel that all teachers who have autistic children in the school should be trained in autism so that they know how to deal with the child in the correct way. Instead of trying to correct them the same way as another child when a child with autism do not understand what is going on.
Please share and sign as I would like to get this as a law in schools to help children with autism.
Thank you to everyone that helps. We really appreciate it....
