The Trump administration just announced a rollback on Obama-era policies on sexual assault guidelines for universities. The new policies essentially establish more legal protections for perpetrators of sexual assault and rape, who already have a history of facing little to no consequences.
“New guidelines alleviate the pressure on schools to feel as though they need to stack the deck against those that are accused.” – Cynthia Garrett, co-president of Families Advocating for Campus Equality
WHY IT’S A PROBLEM
1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted while in college – According to most national and individual school studies
It is believed that only 15.8% - 35% of all sexual assaults are even reported – U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics
Most Victims are already hesitant to report sexual assault, fearing lack of confidentiality and a historically unresponsive justice system.
College campuses are notoriously hesitant to report rape and sexual assault, fearing having the school’s reputation for safety damaged.
“They protect perpetrators because they have a financial incentive to do so.” - The Hunting Ground

Colorado University has already come out in opposition to this outrageous policy. Don't just sit idly by while the Trump administration continues to remove the rights of the systematically oppressed. Be vocal. Call on Miami University to take similar action by signing this petition!
“Any rollback of Title IX protections will hurt your classmates, your students, your friends, your sisters.” – Joe Biden

Miami University needs to come out in public opposition to the new policies being enforced by the Trump administration, which establish more protections for perpetrators of sexual assault and rape.
A public statement condemning the attitude of victimization that has been adopted by Betsy Devos and many citizens of this country will achieve each of the following.
1.) It will discourage sexual assault, a prevalent problem on many college campuses.
2.) It will let students know that Miami University takes the side of the Victim, NOT the perpetrator.
3.) It will contribute to an overall safer campus environment
