Student Anonymous started this petition to Superintendent of LAUSD AUSTIN BEUTNER

On August 9th, schools across the district opened up to once again provide in person learning for all students. However, even before then, students were testing positive during the baseline test. Instead of taking this data and making an assumption that the community transmission rate is too high to once again reopen, the school proceeded with very little protocols put in place. Hallways are crowded, lunch lines are bunched up, areas such as the cafeteria are closed which provide less space to distance from each other, and many students remove their masks while out of the classroom.

It is clearly obvious that the Los Angeles Unified School District is not prepared or equipped with the proper tools and training needed to safely operate the reopening of schools. For the safety of our students, the district should once again switch to hybrid learning which allows students who desperately need a place to peacefully learn in a space to do so, while also allowing those who want to remain safe, the ability to stay in their own homes.

Los Angeles is once again experiencing a new spike due to the new delta variant, and with so many students unvaccinated, the new variant poses an even greater threat to students and their families. We strongly urge school and district officials to take our plead in consideration, for the safety of our students and their families, along with the rest of the community.
