Approve Latinx Migration to live in Australia (Make the next Australian Dream possible!)
Why this petition matters
I am writing to pitch my petition for action as a privileged middle-class Australian citizen with access to social media and technology to make change. After watching on the news the number of undocumented Latinx immigrants at the US-Mexico border and little action, enough is enough. I am willing as a citizen to approve them to move and LIVE in Australia for a better life (Article 13 in the UN Declaration of Human Rights states that EVERYONE has the right to leave any country, including their own and move freely across the borders of each state/country).
Sounds familiar, does it not? And certainly NOT in the right ways. In Australia we had a similar (and still ongoing) issue that our government seems to have "forgotten" about the controversial "Stop the Boats" initiative under the Abbott Government in 2013, when thousands of refugees seeking asylum by boat from Indonesia/South Asian island nations were sent into detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru.
Back to America's border crisis. Unfortunately since April, according to CNN, Customs and Border Protection has reported an average of 6,000 people at the southern border daily, and about 122,000 people at the southwest border, most families sent back and CHILDREN separated from their families are left abandoned in border custody. This is TORTURE and should never be tolerated, regardless of political views or beliefs. It is abundantly clear that the US, as incredibly big, great and successful of a nation that it is (sort of), still needs support and assistance from its fellow neighbouring allies, such as Australia.
HOW do we better manage our immigration policies, you may be asking? As I mentioned on the first paragraph, after negotiations between Australia and the United States, let's send our Latinx friends to start a new life down under! (And no, being kept in detention/government facilities for their whole lives once in Australia does NOT count!) What I mean is by living like an everyday Aussie, with actual FREEDOM. Did I mention that Australia is one of the SAFEST and BEST countries to live on Earth? The weather, the beaches, the wildlife, the life expectancy, the 'mateship' philosophy between the people...it's homey and perfect for new Aussies to settle in and feel welcome. Due to COVID-19, Australia has lost much of its economy, population and tourism which will take years to recover from. Immigrants will be the perfect addition especially for our growing capital cities such as Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane!
(The Australian Government DID have a similar initiative to what I am pitching after WWII. Concerned about the low population leading Australia to be invaded by overseas, 'Populate or Perish' was established by former PM Robert Menzies to allow immigrants from Europe and England known as Ten Pound Poms). We did that, so how did we go wrong from then? Why did we suddenly stop being so inclusive and dictatorlike towards who could come here and who could not?
By allowing Latinx immigrants to live here, we as a nation are providing them and ourselves with great opportunities to work in occupations in hospitality and tourism that will introduce them to a life where anything is possible (our version of the American Dream, you could say!) According to employment website seek.com, demand for workers in regional areas is at an all-time peak with over 66,000 positions awaiting positions. 78% of Australian accommodations are experiencing a shortage of skilled labour in the culinary arts, with 8000 vacancies for chefs in May this year.
The time could not be more relevant and convenient. I believe in this immigration policy, and I am therefore calling upon current Prime Minister Scott Morrison, US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to schedule talks on negotiation for transporting Latinx immigrants down under!
P.S Please, dear reader, if you have got this far, sign this petition, donate and share to the Australian/US Government. Thank you for your support.
In all goodwill,
Kana
