If Indiana couldn’t go a single day without an infection it’s truly only a matter of time before it hits our schools. Many students at AHS have siblings in lower grades who can, in turn, spread it to other schools in the district. As we don’t know the long-term impact of the Coronavirus on children, particularly the younger children who experience the Kawasaki-like syndrome, I have no desire to see any child in USD 402 become the canary in the coal mine.

As a student who attends a different school, I completely agree with the statement of this petition. I think that sending kids back too early is going to be extremely detrimental to our healthcare system, to those at home, and to our students’ health. I think it is vital that we do not send our students back to school in person until we can be assured that there will be no spike in cases, which just isn’t plausible until a vaccine is widely in effect. I really appreciate seeing another student speak up and take action. I hope that this petition can bring positive change and maybe affect other schools’ decisions as well. Thank you so much for speaking out!!!

I'm an alumnus of AHS and I am deeply concerned about the ramifications of reopening USD 402.

Not only does doing in person learning put students, teachers, and parents at risk; this drastically increases the likihood of a major outbreak of COVID-19 in the broader community.

Don't kill people.

I fear for my kids safety and I would be absolutely mad if they got covid-19 at school. I think returning to school shouldn't be rushed and Augusta should wait until at least the first 9 weeks of school is over. Online is a good option for everyone. I hate to see lots of people sick or dead because of this disease and rushing to return to school...

I’m signing this petition because I strongly believe that Augusta school districts should align themselves with other surrounding districts, by starting after the holiday and in alignment with the recommendations coming from the Governor. This shouldn’t be a political issue and so many have turned it into just that. Our kids need school, interaction and education. With the options the board has put forth, this is a good start, but leaves parents having to make so many decisions. What happens every time a student tests positive just like the student on the dance team? Do you send out a notification each time? This would be an ongoing notification process then. Let’s start school later, take out fall break, and end the semester at thanksgiving with online testing and finals after the thanksgiving break. Challenging times call for challenging ideas. Challenging ideas calls for challenging decisions. Let’s do better.

I want our children and young adults to be safe! And for schools to take on the responsibility of protecting them!
