Off the street

There are over 250 people sleeping it rough in Auckland's City Centre every night. There is no planned solution for over two years. Auckland's homeless will continue to suffer living on our streets. Let's solve this problem together!
OFF THE STREET: BUILDING TINY HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS
The campaign is currently investigating suitable Auckland sites with toilets, showers and kitchens to accommodate a small number of 4-5 tiny home facilities to support the homeless.
Each tiny home would cost an estimated $3,200 to build and provide shelter, warmth, lighting, solar USB charger and a storage locker.
The initial trial would cost as little as $38k which would build 4-5 Tiny Homes, provide security, bicycle storage and community gardens. It would be supported by a wrap-around social support network. If the trial goes well the project could be launched across Auckland.
As each homes is under 10m2 there is no building or resource consent needed. Auckland Council has unspent $743k which could be allocated to the project.
This plan provides people with basic necessities and human dignity.
This proposal isn't a long-term housing solution but would help those most at risk until long-term social housing becomes available.
