Make Water a Priority in Tāmaki Makaurau

Make Water a Priority in Tāmaki Makaurau
Why this petition matters

Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland is a city blessed with beautiful water that supports kai moana, recreation and precious ecosystems. However, the state of our water is under threat and requires urgent action to preserve the wai for future generations.
Around our city, outdated wastewater infrastructure causes raw sewage to pollute our waterways, making them unsafe to sustain life. Swimming is not possible at many beaches due to Safeswim ‘red no-swim pollution alerts’. Auckland Council must act now and include a sizable investment for water infrastructure and quality control measures in the 10-year Long Term plan (now under discussion). Although it will be an expensive fix, the issue is not going away and will become worse the longer we leave it. Council needs to make it a priority for our beaches to become safely swimmable and to harvest kaimoana.
Signing this petition shows the Council you support the need to make water a higher priority. We cannot keep delaying our actions and pushing the burden onto future generations. We need a plan of action now and we need your voice to do so.
(please note, we will not receive any money through this website, nor are we seeking any donations, just your signature and support).
