In February, the Judicial Proceedings Report Act quietly passed a law that made it a crime for sexual assault victims in Victoria to use their real names to tell their stories publicly. The punishments can include 4 months of jail time and a $3,000 fine.

As someone who has two close family members who have been victims of sexual assault, this is essentially saying if either of these family members were to start a petition like this, they could be jailed and fined. Furthermore, any victim of sexual assault could be categorised alongside their attackers; a criminal.

We cannot let this law continue to exist and add to the suffering sexual assault victims have already endured. We need your help to get an amendment made to the Judicial Proceedings Report Act to abolish this cruel and immoral law.
