Dores Divest started this petition to Attorney General Herbert Slatery III and

Attorney General Slatery,

Tennesseans care about climate justice!

It is wrong that Vanderbilt is profiting from the climate crisis with its investments. Especially after climate-fueled disasters like flooding in Waverly and tornadoes in Nashville, the University must align its endowment with the charitable research mission it claims to pursue by divesting from fossil fuels.

We ask that you investigate Vanderbilt's violations of the Tennessee Uniform Management of Institutional Funds Act and that you take action to ensure that the investment activity of the Vanderbilt Board of Trust no longer harms the Vanderbilt community, the State of Tennessee, and the public.

We join Senator Tim Wirth, Karenna Gore, Bill McKibben, Noam Chomsky, 40+ climate science leaders, and students and faculty in our call to tell Vanderbilt to clean up its act and divest!

Sign this change.org petition to add your name to the February 16th legal complaint filed by students and featured in the Washington Post, the Guardian, Reuters and more. Full complaint available here: https://climatedefenseproject.org/resources/

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT WITH YOUR AFFILIATION to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, or climate change. In special cases, we may reach out once over email to verify your identity.

Note that this is not a lawsuit. Adding your name to this petition, which will be forwarded to A.G. Slatery, creates no formal legal tie to the claim.
