For as long as I can remember my mother has been an alcoholic, as an only child I looked after myself. She had an abusive boyfriend, acts of which I regularly witnessed (some too graphic to describe) after them splitting and redundancy from her work this caused her drink to quite an extreme, after a prolonged drinking session she caused herself some irreparable damage and ended up with alcohol induced brain damage and liver disease, after almost 6 months in hospital, she was released home, where she continues to drink, I firmly believe that I should have the power to section her for her own safety as you can in other countries, millions of people are alcoholics and this would save lives and also reduce costs of the NHS.
