Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Governor Michael Parson Must Resign
Why this petition matters
There is significant evidence that Missouri's Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Governor Michael Parson were aware of child abuse and human trafficking taking place under their watch. We, the people of Missouri, demand that they resign.
The people of Missouri must unite to ensure that these men do not remain in trusted positions of power, as they have been delinquent in performing the most basic responsibility of their elected positions: to keep Missourians safe. Today, we sign this petition to demand that they step down.
In addition to the atrocities that they enabled at Agape Boarding School, nearly 1,000 children have gone missing from our foster care system under their watch. The U.S. Office of Inspector General has reported on their lack of action:
"During the times in which the children were missing from care, Missouri frequently failed to comply with requirements that could have aided in locating them. Nearly half of the case files contained no evidence of Missouri reporting the children as missing, as required, to either local law enforcement or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Additionally, for many missing children, there was no evidence that Missouri made the required notifications and contacts to seek information on the children’s potential whereabouts."
Under their watch, the Department of Social Services’ Children’s Division has been underfunded and as of the most recept reporting stated that there are 237 vacancies across the division, leaving only 1,054 of the 1,291 budgeted caseworkers filled. This in large part due to the fact that the starting salary for these positions is under $35,000, $10,000 less than in neighboring states. Rather than increasing funding to sufficiently fill these roles, Governor Parson has called a Special Session to lower taxes for the wealthiest Missourians.
It is dangerous to allow these men to stay in power and as the people of Missouri, we have a responsibility to hold them accountable for their actions.
We stand together calling for these men to resign and to face accountability for their actions.
