Dear, Atlanta Board Of Education and Atlanta Public Schools

As APS students we all are going through a trauma with the upcoming election and COVID-19. As students we feel that virtual school should not be from 8:30 am to 2:50 pm, that’s 6 hours of virtual learning with only 10 minute breaks. We feel that our breaks are too little and each class is 75 minutes. Our lunch break is only 40 minutes and that is too little. More than 2 hours of Screen Time can affect our Brain’s. It is Scientifically proven that every hour of screen time you should at least take 20 minute breaks but we only get 10 minutes. That’s affecting us mentally and physically.

We are getting too much Class Work and too much Homework. For example, teacher’s would give us at least 4 assignments for 1 class, Let along we have 7 other classes. That is just too much pressure.

In conclusion, we feel that this problem could be fixed by changing the number of classes, Making the hours of Virtual Learning shorter, and Making our breaks longer.

Sincerely, Djamila Barry and Keirstyn Smith
