Vinya has been a vital aspect within the NSW Athletics community for 18 seasons for her medical and professional expertise. During her many years of experience as the senior Medical Officer/First Aid & soft tissue injury management with ANSW, she had remained a committed and caring professional who has a compassion and proficiency with athletes that has not been seen before.

Those who have been fortunate enough to know Vinya knows how extraordinary she is in this line of work and that she is more than just a first aid officer. She is a friendly face to talk to and someone you can rely on, with medical expertise that surpasses many other first aid officers and trainers that we highly value in our sport. She takes care of all patients on and off the track, ranging from kids to adults, officials to athletes, and beginner to professional and elite-level athletes. There have been numerous times our Australian team of professional athletes have chosen to seek treatment and advice from her before state and national events, which have consequently contributed to many athletes achieving qualification standards for international championships.

Despite the positive impact and the countless relationships with member of the athletics community that Vinya has created, she has not been asked by athletics NSW to provide her expertise for athletics in the 2019/20 athletics season; and without an explanation of this abrupt decision. Without Vinya, there will be countless athletes who will not have a trusted professional they can turn to at competitions this season. With 2020 being an Olympic year, it is more important than ever that expertise is needed. Whilst many athletes continue to receive treatment outside the field from Vinya, her absence from the track has already caused unease in athletes at competitions. It is therefore vital for the health, wellbeing and future of Australia’s athletes that Vin returns to the medic room for the 2020 athletics season.

For anyone who has experienced or have heard of Vinya's significant and positive contribution to athletics in NSW, we kindly ask that you sign this petition to make it known to Athletics NSW the importance of her presence as a medical officer at athletics events.
