Save Student Athletes College Career

Save Student Athletes College Career
Why this petition matters
Recently at Umass Dartmouth 8 sports teams were cut from the school with zero warning, zero explanation, and with no opinions from whom it would affect. The decision was made without anyone knowing and has devastated student athletes involved at the university. These student athletes have been recruited by the school with high hopes and dreams to persue a career in college athletics which takes a lot of passion and commitment to do. These student athletes who deviate from the norm of a college student, require many years of work at their craft in which the average college student or person would not Willingly perform. This decision has caused dismay in many athletes schoolwide as many of them decided to choose Umass Dartmouth as the school of choice for the reality of them continuing their athletic career in college. The recruitment process is not one that is easy and can cause a large amount of stress during the process. Choosing a school is one of the most difficult things an aspiring student athlete can do as it will be a decision that will last 4 years. A decision that could be their last dealing with sports for the rest of their lives. Stripping this opportunity away for current players as well as aspiring recruits is unfair to players and staff. I’m hoping with this, changes can be made to allow student athletes to maintain current relationships with fellow classmates, attend the university, as well as being able to continue to persue their dreams.
