The new athletic director for Scottsdale Community College took away the golf program last year in 2021. He removed long time coach Dan Dersem from running the golf program and stated "golf is a country club sport."  He then acquired twenty two thousand dollars from the program and we do not know where it has gone. The history of the golf program and the 11 national titles that the Artichokes have won is amazing.  Golf is more than a game.  Being a previous alumni and golfer for the artichokes under Dan's leadership changed my life.  It brought me close friends, helped motivate me to continue with my degree, and gave me an outlet to work on my game and represent the college.  

We all know how much sports can help us grow.  Golf is a sport that teaches a lot of life principles and gives men and women a chance to learn and achieve success both on the course and in the classroom.  The main thing here is Dan Dersem.  A leader, a coach, and a dear friend of mine.  I do not know where I would be in my life today without him.  He went above and beyond for all the students and athletes and helped us in our next chapter of life.

Signing this petition will be doing five key things.

1.  Hire a new Athletic Director for SCC 

2.  The return of the golf program to Scottsdale Community College.

3. The return of Dan Dersem to coach and Admin for the golf program.

4. The rebuilding and investment towards the artichoke golf program.

I will be bringing this petition to the president of SCC and explaining the consequences of losing the program.
