Petition Closed

Astronomy journals currently favour EPS figures, and in some cases do not accept any other formats (such as PDF). The EPS format is outdated and is being phased out or is a low priority in modern plotting packages.

The PDF format supports features -- such as transparency -- that are not supported by EPS, and is better supported by modern plotting packages.

Among the well-known journals, only A&A and MNRAS appear to accept PDF figures. This is a petition to let the journals know that the scientists driving the publications need PDF files to become an acceptable format for publications. We are not suggesting that publishers should not accept EPS figures, but only that they should start accepting PDF figures as an alternative.
