Online Option for AHS Students
Online Option for AHS Students
We ask the Aspen High School administration to create an online learning option for students and teachers. Given that Pitkin County has one of the highest confirmed Covid rates in the country, it is illogical to mandate in-person learning. Students are concerned. The CDC mandates a 10-day quarantine after a positive test in schools. As well as general concern about the inherent transmissibility and long-term effects of Covid, students fear that they could likely be absent for a crucial week of studying before finals. The administration has already deemed certain precautions necessary like lunch in assigned classrooms, no student section at sporting events, and very strict rules regarding masks. We recognize that online learning is not effective for all, but for some, it is an equally viable option that is necessary for their health and peace of mind. These students and teachers deserve the right to a suitable option that respects the health and safety of themselves and their families.
