Negative body image has become a pandemic sweeping much of the western world. We believe this is due to the lack of representation of different body types in all forms of media. A staggering 90% of teenage girls in the UK are unhappy with their bodies. Two thirds of women who are a size 14 think they are overweight, when in fact the UK average is a size 16. Clearly something needs to be done to change these statistics. The fashion industry need to stop body shaming and start aiding their customers' liberation.
This is why we are asking major retailers such as ASOS to increase the number of different sized models used on their website. We feel as if the use of all body shapes and sizes in retail will help normalise the idea that every size can be beautiful. This new message will in turn help women to accept their bodies, whatever size they may be.
(And no we don't just mean increase the 'curve' range, because this is putting a label on AVERAGE women, making them feel abnormally large, when in reality they are not.)
