Ask The City of Walterboro to work with citizens to build a Splash Pad/Skate park

We would love for Walterboro City Council to consider working with the community to build and maintain a splash pad (Water playground) by applying for the appropriate grants for land and construction.
Many small towns are finding the funds through various park and recreation grants, local business sponsorship, and even community fundraising to build.
City insurance policies are not increasing and are the same as installing playground equipment since there is no risk of drowning because of no standing water. They also have lower operating and maintenance costs than a pool because of no need for lifeguards.
Other cities are reporting a drop in crime rates after investing in these splash pads because the youth have an acceptable place to meet with friends. With the gang problems our City has been plagued with, we need to invest in our community by investing in our youth.
There is a huge need in our city for something for our growing number of teens and youth to do and this would be the perfect solution.
A skate park would be available for local competitions for revenue, and would be an excellent, safe meeting place for the youth in the months that the splash pad is not being used.
This attraction would also bring in travelers, which would be great for the city's commerce and tourism department.
Some Community fundraising and local business donations would most likely be needed to match any 50/50 grants.
Please sign and help our dream become reality. Our youth really needs this.
