Approve subdivision proposal of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills

Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills (the former Temple Shalom of Milton) has been an integral part of the fabric of the Town of Milton, and of the Milton community, for 70 years. Since leaving its location on Blue Hill Avenue three years ago, the Temple has been searching for a new home. During that time, we have explored numerous options, in an effort to find a home for our Temple family. Unfortunately, none of these options yielded a viable location for a new home.
Then, in the fall of 2013, Marvin and Andrea Gordon, active participants in Milton civic life and long-time members of our Congregation, proposed a solution that was beyond our wildest imagination. They generously offered to donate 1.9 acres of their beautiful land to the Temple for the construction of a new home for our Congregation.
True to our community’s values and the land’s bucolic setting, we are designing a new building that will be visually pleasing, energy efficient, and beautifully landscaped. The building and landscaping are designed to blend in with the neighborhood that abuts the property.
We are a small congregation, and thus we expect our presence to have a low impact on the surrounding neighborhood. We are genuinely committed to maintaining the neighborhood’s residential feel and have every intention of being an asset to our new neighborhood, as we were in our former home.
In closing, the Gordon’s generous gift to our Temple has presented us with a once in a lifetime opportunity. We need your support to make this dream come true so Milton will continue to have a vibrant Jewish community.
Please sign this petition to show your support for maintaining a Jewish community in the town of Milton – Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills is our town’s only synagogue!
We the undersigned urge the Planning Board to approve the Temple’s subdivision application to ensure that the Jewish community remains part of the fabric of our town.
