Ask Mayor de Blasio to keep his campaign promise and ban horse-drawn carriages in NYC.

Please ask New York City's Mayor de Blasio to keep his promise and BAN horse-drawn carriages. Countless accidents prove that horses do not belong in the crowded and congested streets of NYC. It is inhumane and it is dangerous. A ban bill (Intro.573) was introduced in December 2014 but died because Mayor de Blasio reneged on his promise and failed to lobby the City Council. Now is the time to let him hear from us persistently until he keeps his word.
The animal rights and welfare community helped to elect Mayor deBlasio in 2013 because of this campaign promise. If he continues to turn his back on this issue, we will not vote for him when he seeks reelection in 2017. Our votes are valuable and will not be thrown away.
By ignoring the plight of the beleaguered carriage horse – most of whom go to auction and then slaughter when they can no longer do the job - NYC shows itself in a very bad light – selfish, insensitive and afraid of the unions who lied about the carriage horse drivers having “good union jobs.”
Both tourist guides Frommer’s and Fodor’s recommend not taking these exploitative and cruel rides.
