Ask Dorset Council to declare a Climate Emergency and take action

Dorset Council have now Declared a Climate Emergency

The newly elected Dorset Council yesterday declared a Climate Emergency at the very first council meeting 16th May 2019.  The motion was first tabled by Councillor Nick Ireland, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the council. The vote was 69 for, 2 against and 6 abstain.

Outside the Council offices a Climate Change protest took place early in the morning organised by Extinction Rebellion groups from Bridport, Dorchester and Weymouth.  A fantastic coordinated effort.

The declaration is a great result and a huge step forward.  Thank you to all of you who signed the petition showing your support for this campaign, and thank you to all the groups who took part in some way.

We now need to see what follows.  Will the council now commit to becoming carbon neutral by 2030?
