We are calling for an independent third party investigation

We understand that you’ve been taking action to ensure that ASIJ becomes a safer place for children – today and tomorrow. That’s a positive step. What we don’t understand is how you can move forward without a true understanding of what happened in the past.

We join with the classes of 68, 81, 85, 86, 87, 89, 90, 91, 92, and 93 in calling for an investigation. We have seen reports that say ASIJ was informed of Moyer’s abuses in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1982 or 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

There is evidence to suggest that an ongoing strategy of avoidance was successful. By continuing to brush aside complaints and not see or address the full story – that children were being victimized for many years – ASIJ has avoided ever dealing with it at all.

We understand the human impulse for self-protection. We understand that excuses can be made under the guise of protecting victims, or protecting the school. That is why we believe it is vital to understand how the school failed to protect so many for so long.

We are calling for an independent third party investigation that accomplishes the following:

1. To redress the wrongs committed against so many of our classmates, in our class and in other classes.

2. To understand how and why this could have continued for decades without any full investigation by the school.

3. For you to better understand the psychology of victims, the psychology of predators, and whether you are looking at a temporary misunderstanding or a repeated pattern—the tip of the iceberg.

4. For the findings to become public (with victims protected), so that we can all learn from the results.

We join with those who have spoken up. We speak for those who have been silent. We ask that you act now.
